OUR SECOND STAY AT DAPHNE COTTAGE. AS THE FIRST, A WONDERFUL STAY IN THIS BEAUTIFUL HOME!

The weather has been frightful at times but still managed to get out and explore. Lots of wonderful walks with Ted.

Thank you for the lovely flowers and delicious welcome gifts. Another delightful time.

— J & N and Ted. January 2024

ANOTHER WONDERFUL STAY. THIS IS OUR THIRD TIME AND WE STILL LOVE IT.

A nice relaxing week before the craziness of Christmas. We’ve been to a lovely donkey sanctuary, to the beach, a drive in cinema - seeing Elf - to name just a few.

This is certainly our happy place and we will be back again in 2024. Happy Christmas Rachel

— N, S & J. December 2023

THIS IS OUR THIRD VISIT TO DAPHNE COTTAGE AND IT HAS BEEN AS ENJOYABLE AS THE LAST TWO

We have found that lots of smaller fishing villages have been closed because it is out of season (as well as some of the National Trust Gardens and some cafes and restaurants)

BUT the weather has been sunny and the beaches are beautiful. Looking forward to visiting again in the spring / summer.

— L, A & G. January 2024

OUR SECOND CHRISTMAS HERE AND WE HAVE HAD ANOTHER WONDERFUL STAY

So comfortable and everything here to provide for a lovely holiday.

Again, weather awful - storms all week - but has not stopped us or kept us in. Lovely walks with the dogs, dinner at The Ferryboat Inn was lovely and a day in Falmouth.

Thank you for the treats on arrival - wine, milk, chocolate, olives and a vase of flowers - lovely!

We’ll be back - would like to visit next in the summer.

— A & A. December 2023

ANOTHER LOVELY STAY AT DAPHNE COTTAGE

We have really enjoyed it and have some most enjoyable days out in spite of the copious amounts of rain! Luckily some dry spells most days to have a walk. Beautiful walks in this area - Helford River is stunning - definitely our “Happy Place”.

We look forward to our summer stay here at the cottage next year, and hopefully be able to have the French doors open and have a glass of wine in the garden! Many thanks Rachel

— F & H. December 2023

OUR FOURTH STAY AT DAPHNE COTTAGE SINCE 2019

It is everything you could want in a holiday home and is by far and away the best we have ever stayed in. Rachel, you and your team of cleaners and gardeners are doing a brilliant job in painting the house in immaculate condition. The welcome pack and fresh flowers are very thoughtful. Lovely to see the flowers as we came in.

We would echo the suggestions of previous guests for days out and places to eat. A couple of restaurants we hadn’t been to before:

  • Budock Vean hotel have an excellent lunch menu and considering it is a hotel, reasonably priced and the cream tea looks amazing too!

  • The Upper Deck in Falmouth Marina, great food especially the muscles and a fabulous view.

Others have mentioned The Lost Gardens of Heligan, ages since we have been but a great day out, followed by cream tea on Megavissy Harbour, its only a couple of miles away so worth the detour.

If you are on the Roseland Peninsula and the tide is out, Carne and Pendover beaches are gorgeous (not much beach if the tide is in though)

We revisited favourite places, but need to come back as there is so much more to see. Thank you for a lovely holiday.

— A & J. September 2023

WE’VE HAD ANOTHER GREAT STAY AT DAPHNE COTTAGE

We’ve visited local beaches, the seal sanctuary, eaten out in some lovely places. Our favourite beach is a bit of a walk down, but is worth the trek - Nansidwell.

Hoping to be back next year.

— The H Family. August 2023

MANY THANKS FOR THE WELCOME PACK. HAD A WONDERFUL STAY IN THE COTTAGE

Weather excellent apart from one day. Toured South Cornwall, magnificent people and scenery. Would definitely recommend. Best wishes.

— M & S. September 2023

ONCE AGAIN ANOTHER GEM OF A WEEK AT DAPHNE COTTAGE

Weather stormy so really enjoyed the cottage and cosy evenings.

Looking forward to next year!

— N & K. October 2023

THANK YOU RACHEL FOR ANOTHER WONDERFUL WEEK IN DAPHNE COTTAGE

During this stay we visited Padstow - well worth a visit - St. Ives via St. Earth station which is a must. £8 for four adults return and we visited Land’s End which we visited 50 years ago, with spectacular view but disappointed with the way that it has been commercialised (Rachel: couldn’t agree more!)

Visited Duchy Nurseries which has been refurbed in Lostwithiel, and had fantastic cream tea. The garden hosts a huge display and choice of everything for the horticulturalis and interior decor fanatics alike.

Our return visits for 2024 are already planned. Thanks again Rachel.

— The J Family with Suki the Japanese Chin. September 2023

WHAT CAN WE SAY? WE HAPPILY PICKED THE BEST WEEK OF SUMMER TO STAY AT DAPHNE COTTAGE

Lovely, comfortable accommodation with a great garden that we all enjoyed. Everything was very thoughtfully provided including a lovely welcome pack.

Coastal the walking was very much enjoyed. There are good beaches at Maenporth and Swanpool, now dog friendly. Spent a fantastic day at Praa Sands watching the surfers and braving the shallows.

We really appreciated the recommendations of eating places locally

  • Ferryboat Inn - food very good, scenery and atmosphere the best locally.

  • Hooked on the Rocks excellent fish and seafood with a knockout view but pricey!

After a breezy (!) ferry to St. Mawes, we ate well at The Rising Sun with a good view of the harbour.

All in all a fab week afforded by outstanding weather.

— H & E with dogs Barney & Charlie. September 2023

SUPER COTTAGE!!!

Loved our stay here in Mawnan Smith and surroundings.

See you next year!!

— T & L. August 2023

LOVED OUR STAY AT THE COTTAGE AND THE VILLAGE LOCATION, EXACTLY WHAT WE HOPED FOR

The cottage is so well designed and equipped - couldn’t ask for anything more. We found the light switch for the ship’s lights in the kitchen, well impressed!!

Our recommendations:

  • Trebah Gardens every time (Glendurgan would not take dogs)

  • Carwinion woods walk and coastal path to the Ferryboat Inn (very nice food)

  • Trelissick Gardens, King Harry Ferry and St. Mawes (dogs allowed in Trelissick grounds)

  • Lost Gardens of Heligan

  • New Inn for food

Thank you for the welcome pack and comprehensive info on the cottage.

— C & D. June 2023

IN A WORD…

…FABULOUS!!!

— S & D. June 2023

THANKS FOR THE LOVELY WELCOME PACK!

We had a super stay and were lucky with the weather every day. The information pack was the best we have had, we did all the recommended walks from the cottage and liked them all. It was nice to have days out that didn’t involve driving.

The Pandora Inn, the Ferryboat Inn and The Shipwright Arms kept us fed and watered all week.

We will be back next year!

— L & E. June 2023

ANOTHER WONDERFUL WEEK IN DAPHNE COTTAGE

Weather not so good this time, but we were well prepared for any eventuality albeit the thunder and lightening in Falmouth was quite spectacular!

If you like fish and chips, Charlie’s in Truro is a mush and the best in the area (Pensilva Road, Truro. TR1 1RS) cooked to order whilst you wait. The Cornish Store next to Waitrose in Truro has fabulous produce all locally sourced including a fish counter stocked daily from Newlyn.

Thank you Rachel for the generous welcome pack and the new hand rail was greatly appreciated by us “Cotton Tops”. Already looking forward to our return in September. Best Regards.

— The J Family & Suki. May 2023

QUALITY & COMFORTABLE ACCOMMODATION WTH ALL THE MODERN CONVENIENCES

Excellent location in a picture postcard location. So much to see and do with fabulous Helford River and estuary and coastal walks on the doorstep.

Back again in Summer 2023 for sailing and sight seeing. Excellent host and quality boutique cottage.

— The P Family. March 2023

THIS WAS THE SECOND TIME WE STAYED AT DAPHNE COTTAGE AND IT WAS JUST AS LOVELY

..from its perfect location to immaculate interiors, couldn’t fault it! Thank you very much for having us again. We are already looking forward to coming back!

— V, P & T. July 2023

THIS IS OUR 6TH VISIT - WE CAN NOT GET ENOUGH OF THIS BEAUTIFUL COTTAGE

Everything is so thoughtfully provided and smacks of quality! It really is a treat for us to stay in Daphne Cottage and we look forward to our next visit.

— The P Family. July 2023

HAVE THOROUGHLY ENJOYED OUR STAY IN DAPHNE COTTAGE

Great location. Visited The Lost Gardens of Heligan and most of the local gardens. Dinner at the Ferryboat Inn was lovely - glad we booked a taxi as parking is tricky. Got the ferry to St Mawes and hand lunch at Hotel Tresanton which was lovely. Trip to Helford and lunch at The Shipwrights.

All in all we had a wonderful restful stay and would definitely recommend to friends.

— The C Family. July 2023

A WONDERFUL COTTAGE IN A GREAT VILLAGE

Really enjoyed ourselves, already booked again for November! We had wonderful sunny weather so made good use of the BBQ. Lots of coastal path walks and sitting on the beach. Fantastic!

Would recommend Gylly Beach Cafe, Falmouth for lunch or dinner and the very friendly Ferryboat Inn, just outside the village. Disappointed with the Cove at Maenporth this time, but fabulous previously, maybe a change in chef?

— S & T. June 2023

WE HAVE HAD A FABULOUS TIME

We were very lucky with the weather and the cottage was extremely comfortable - we were made to feel very welcome.

Beautiful village - great location - hope to come again! 5 stars!

— C & B. May 2023

CELIA AND I HAVE VERY MUCH ENJOYED OUR STAY AT DAPHNE COTTAGE AND HAVE ALREADY RECOMMENDED IT TO FRIENDS…

…who will soon be coming themselves to enjoy its quality and location. We found it to be ideally situated with many places to visit in easy striking distance and also many excellent places to eat. Would very much recommend Seabourne fishmonger in Penryn if you enjoy quality fish. The cottage itself is ideally equipped for owners and dogs alike.

— C & A. April 2023

OUR SECOND TRIP TO DAPHNE COTTAGE, WE CAME THE SAME WEEK LAST YEAR AND ENJOYED IT SO MUCH WE DECIDED TO MAKE A RETURN VISIT.

Daphne Cottage (and hosts) epitomises what a good holiday cottage should be - if only they were all so nice and thoughtfully set up as this one. We had forgotten just how lovely it is. The bed is so comfy, ideal layout and great being tucked away and quiet in a great location with so many good walks on the doorstep as well.

We stopped off at The Lost Gardens of Heligan on the way down - always a favourite - every time we go they have uncovered and restored a new part of the garden. The Queen May Gardens, prom and beach at Gyllyngvase makes for a nice walk. The beach is sandy and flaked with rock pools either side. Falmouth has a very good Sainsbury’s (with reasonable gluten free section) and the lifeboat station is worth a visit. The Gem fish and chip shop in Falmouth also has gluten free options, just order in advance. Nearby National Trust Glendurgan Gardens is well worth a visit - however, not dog friendly, and watch you don’t get stuck as the gates close at 4pm!!

Thanks for the beautiful roses and snacks. Another 10/10 stay

— K & M and Hector the cute little wooly coated dog! March 2023

A WET, WILD AND WINDY WEEK OFTEN SHOWS THIS PART OF THE WORLD AT ITS BEST…

…and this was one of those weeks. Coastal path, clifftop walks, lovely place to visit all around the area made for a great break at Daphne Cottage. Our two dogs had a great time exploring the coves and beaches and Daphne Cottage is a great place to use as a base to explore. A beautiful cottage with everything you could want, to spend in this part of the world.

— P, J and dogs Meg & Ruby. March 2023

WHAT AN ABSOLUTELY LOVELY COTTAGE AND PLACE!

The house is lovely and in a wonderful location. Super clean and comfy and toasty warm for our winter visit. Very well kitted out with everything you will need for a great holiday. We loved our stay and will definitely be back!!

— M. February 2023

A FANTASTIC PLACE TO STAY, COSY FIRE, LARGE KITCHEN AND GOOD CENTRAL LOCATION FOR EXPLORING CORNWALL

I liked both the Pandora Inn and the Trengilly Wartha (we didn’t get to the Shipwrights or Ferryboat Inn)

It is on our list to come here again.

Thanks very much!!

— B. January 2023

WE’VE HAD A LOVELY STAY AT DAPHNE COTTAGE WHICH CERTAINLY LIVED UP TO OUR EXPECTATIONS

The cottage is very welcoming, cosy and comfortable - the bed very comfy! We continue to return to this area year after year, as it is so beautiful with some stunning walks.

Would love to stay here in the summer but prefer a Saturday changeover as driving back up to the East Midlands can be a nightmare on a Friday (Rachel comment: we are set to Fridays due to our changeover company’s availability)

Thank you for the wine, flowers and goodies.

— H & F. New Year 2022

ECHO WHAT OTHERS HAVE SAID… LOVELY COTTAGE IN GREAT LOCATION…

… with shops and pub a stone’s throw and numerous walks from the door. Fabulous light and spacious kitchen space and a big bonus to have a secure south-facing back garden.

Practical layout with luxurious touches (especially the master bedroom) and would be interested to see the ‘before’ photos (Rachel note: photos sent!). Highlights include walks at Gunwalloe, Penjerrick Garden and of course, Durgan / Helford.

Welcome pack on arrival was much appreciated! Many thanks.

— The S Family and dogs Walter & Phil. March 2023

ANOTHER FANTASTIC STAY AT DAPHNE COTTAGE

We plan to book again for the Autumn or beginning of next year.

We recommend Pendower Beach for a lovely dog walk, even in the rain. And a day trip to St Ives - even in low season it is lovely.

(The stair handrail is a good addition)

Thank you!

— L, A, G & Enya the dog. January 2023

THIS IS OUR 2ND TIME AT DAPHNE COTTAGE

This is becoming something of a tradition for us and we’ve already booked up for this time next year (Christmas 2023).

It’s perfect for the three of us - a little oasis of calm before Christmas. It’s spotless, charming and really we situated for lots to do.

Thanks again for giving us a lovely year-end holiday.

— S, N & J. December 2022

BEAUTIFUL COTTAGE, LOVELY AND RELAXING

Would highly recommend and hope to return soon.

— C & S. December 2022

WE ORIGINALLY CHOSE YOUR BEAUTIFUL COTTAGE BECAUSE IT WAS ONE OF THE FEW WE HAVE FOUND WITH A COMPLETELY DOG PROOF GARDEN, BUT WOW!

What a find your cottage is! We have stayed in many holiday cottages but this surpasses them all. We have never come across a cottage so well equipped and to such a high standard. The treats you left for us were so generous. We loved the luxury bedding, the log burner, the cosy snug and views of the garden - we could go on forever!

We have walked miles from the front door. Our favourites; Mawnan Church to Toll Point, Mawnan Church to Rosemullion Head, Trebah Gardens via Higher Penpol (interesting styles on that one) and down to Hotel Meudon and on to Maenporth.

Everyone in the village has been so friendly, but we’d specifically like to mention the shop next door. The fresh, local grown veg tasted amazing as did the local eggs and we loved the milk from the Rhodda’s machine. Our only teensy niggle is the locals are obviously used to the cottage not always being occupied and parking in front of the gate. Not usually a problem when we were going out aa not in a rush, but a little annoying when returning when the square is busy and having to want to drive in (Rachel’s note: sign ordered for 2023 and will be put up later in the year)

We have loved every moment of staying in your beautiful home and can’t wait to come back soon to sample all the amazing sounding food in the local restaurants, recommended in your brilliant guide. Thank you so much.

— D & W and Alfie & Dexter the dogs. November 2022

4TH OR 5TH TIME TO DAPHNE COTTAGE

We always look forward to your annual Cornish getaway.

Beautiful cosy cottage which never fails to get you in holiday mode. We will be re-booking again!

— N & K. November 2022

WE RETURNED FOR ANOTHER STAY IN THIS WONDERFUL COTTAGE

Being from the North West, we came armed with waterproofs and plenty of winter outdoor gear, none of which was needed! We had a glorious week on the South West Coastal paths. We revisited some of our favourites; the walk from Porth around St Anthony’s Head, the Three Coves walk down in The Lizard and Penberth, Logan’s Rock, Porthcurno and Lands End to name but three.

The Ferryboat Inn remains the best for value and quality and a varied menu. Hooked on the Rocks for sea food and fish. Thank you for the welcome goodies. We will return in April 2023.

— P & A. October 2022

OUR 2ND STAY THIS YEAR

We came across this gem in March - you can’t fault it - from the welcome pack to the bed linen all fabulous.

The location is great for exploring all the beaches. Nothing more to add as you have thought of everything.

PS your cleaners do an amazing job, the cottage was spotless.

Fabulous stay, thank you Rachel

— T, & G and Ralph the Toller. November 2022

A LOVELY COTTAGE IN A FAB LOCATION

Very comfortable, warm and cosy. Tiny details make all the difference, such as the coffee maker and the quality bed linen.

Mawnan Smith is lovely - AWNA cafe is recommended for their lush cakes and friendly service. Also the Oyster Catcher - beautiful homeware and we spent a good half an hour talking to Brendan - again very welcoming and friendly.

Helford Passage is beautiful and so is Helford Village. Gilly’s Cafe for the view and best chips ever.

We will return soon to explore more!

— B, J & W. October 2022

WE LOVE THE COTTAGE’S ARCHITECTURE AND ITS MANY COMFORTS

Its location at the heart of Mawnan Smith is very convenient (e.g. the excellent array of fresh foods at the shop next door)

We had two terrific walks nearby:

  1. From Mawnan Smith to Porth Saxon beach and along the coastal footpath to Maenporth and then back to Mawnan Smith

  2. From Mawnan Smith to Porth Saxon beach and then along the coastal footpath to Helford Passage, taking in the beach below Bosloe Garden [NOTE: this is Grebe Beach - amazing beach and perfect spot for a swim..]

We had some excellent food at

The Star & Garter in Falmouth: great views across to Flushing

Verdant Seafood Bar in Falmouth: very popular and they do not take bookings, but if you are in Falmouth at the right time, the seafood mezzo plates are delicious. The Verdant is also a micro-brewery with interesting beers.

Potager Cafe in Constantine: this is the most delightful cafe set in two greenhouses in a pretty garden. Very very relaxed atmosphere.

Hooked on the Rocks, Swanpool: set above the rocks at Swanpool beach - windy and the sound of the waves if seated outside, cosy and warm inside.

— S & C. October 2022

WONDERFUL COTTAGE - GREAT SURROUNDING AREAS

Our second visit to Daphne Cottage and another fantastic holiday. A very peaceful and comfortable place to stay.

Lots of places of interest to visit nearby - Helford Passage (The Ferryboat Inn), a small ferry boat trip to The Shipwright Amrms and a walk along Frenchman’s Creek etc.

Too much to list but you don’t have to travel far to enjoy the amazing scenery - Bream Cove, Meudon - beautiful and only a 20 minute walk away.

— S & H. July 2022

YOUR GARDEN IS VERY PRETTY. I LOVE THIS HOUSE, SO DOES MY BROTHER..

I hope we are welcome here again (L & M, aged 6 and 4)

Where to start? What an incredible house!

We’ve had such an amazing stay here - the cottage is stunning and in such a good location - we adore the Helford River and will be back!!

So much to do here, brilliant recommendations in the info book, thank you! Lots of love (the parents!!)

— The G Family. August 2022

WOW! AMAZING COTTAGE

We have had a wonderful week at Daphne Cottage - a real home from home. Comfortable beds and everything you need.

Lots of walking and visits to name a few: The Lizard, Falmouth, St Mates and the local village, river and local beach!

Eating and wonderful meals at Hooked on the Rocks, the Star & Garter, The Ferryboat Inn and the Red Lion.

Thank you so much for all the extras including the dog treats. We hope to return one day!

— N & J and Ted the dog. August 2022

THANKS AGAIN FOR A LOVELY WEEK AT DAPHNE COTTAGE

It feels like a home from home when we’re here. Each visit we find somewhere new to go and explore.

Great food at the Red Lion, and from the shop next door. Hoping to be back next year again!

— The H Family, August 2022

WHAT A STUNNING COTTAGE!

We have absolutely loved our stay here, so comfortable, beautifully presented and conveniently located.

My 7 year old absolutely loved Trebah Gardens, the river cruise with Helford River Boats, the National Maritime Museum and the seal sanctuary at Gweek.

So many beautiful beaches within easy reach as well.

We will definitely be back!

— The W Family. July 2022

WOW! WHAT A FANTASTIC PLACE

We have had a wonderful break here at your beautiful Daphne Cottage. Everything you could need is here, the cottage is so well laid out and spotlessly clean.

Myself and my wife and our working cocker Flash have thoroughly enjoyed our time in Daphne Cottage. Great places and walks right on the doorstep, in a lovely Cornish village. Would love to come back to this area again, and definitely want to stay in Daphne Cottage. Thank you.

— C & H and Flash the working cocker. June 2022

MANY THANKS RACHEL FOR ANOTHER WONDERFUL WEEK AT DAPHNE COTTAGE

Thank you for the welcome pack! We have visited many of the old haunts and have been to many new locations this time - we would like to recommend Duchy Nurseries at Lostwithiel, which is well worth a visit as it must have one of the finest choices of plants and a wonderful different interiors section - and a good food choice, albeit there was a wait.

We have spent some time and Maenporth beach and walked down to Porth Saxon beach several times - a nice 30 minute each way walk through the woods admiring the tree fees and bamboos of the neighbouring garden estate of Carwinion House.

Our new little dog Suki, who is a miniature Japanese Chin, has enjoyed every minute.

Thanks again, Rachel, can’t wait to return in September.

— The J Family & Suki. May 2022

THOROUGHLY ENJOYED OUR WEEK IN DAPHNE COTTAGE

A most comfortable and modern cottage - very peaceful and very well equipped. Fantastically clean and very well looked after - we look forward to coming back in July!

Visited the Ferryboat Inn for dinner, great food and a beautiful location. Lots of local walks - coastal paths with wonderful views.

We had a good dinner at The Cove in Maenporth and the shop next door is great for a variety of things!

Lots of thought has gone into welcoming guests at Daphne Cottage - whilst unexpected, it was a pleasant surprise to find milk, tea coffee, fresh flowers, dog treats, a goody bag etc. We felt very welcome here!

— S, H & B. May 2022

THIS IS OUR THIRD STAY AT LOVELY DAPHNE COTTAGE AND WE HAVE STILL DISCOVERED NEW THINGS TO SEE AND DO

Absolutely beautiful coastal walk from Wheal Coates to Trevaunance Cove and on to St Agnes. We enjoyed probably the best sausage roll we’ve ever had from the St Agnes Bakery.

Excellent Sunday roast at the Star Inn at Porkellis with lovely staff.

The walk from Readymoney Cove to Fowey which has great shops and also stunning.

Thank you for the bag of goodies and fresh flowers. I’m sure we will return again.

PS we have been watching the blackbirds gathering worms from the grass - we think there’s a nest in the bamboo!

— R, S & S. April 2022

DAPHNE COTTAGE - A POEM

Daphne Cottage, wow what a great place

When I walked in, it put a smile on my face

So clean with everything you would need

And loads of literature for you to read

To the Red Lion we went

And much of our money spent

The little shop next door was a blessing

We needed ketchup for our dressing

Durgan was our first foray

What a pleasant walk - hip hip hooray

Such a great place for us to stay

It was hard to say goodbye, and be on our way

— W, P & Gerter and Pickles the dogs. April 2022

WE HAD A FANTASTIC WEEK - DIDN’T WANT TO LEAVE

The cottage is a real find - you have thought of everything - a real home from home. So comfortable and just in a great setting.

It was all about the beaches for us, we visited St Ives, Newquay, Hayle, Penzance, Mousehole. Our dog had the best holiday. We went to the Ferryboat Inn the first evening, lovely food.

Would come back as the location is a winner along with Daphne Cottage. Thank you!

— T, G & Ralphie the ‘Toller’. March 2022

AMAZING COTTAGE, EVERYTHING YOU COULD POSSIBLY WANT

Ideal base for walks and exploration.

A perfect home from home and lovely to come back to. Thank you. Would definitely recommend.

— V & Family & Ruby the dog. March 2022

A GREAT WEEK IN A COSY AND SPOTLESS COTTAGE

Perfect village with a great pub and village store. The cottage is perfect for visiting the whole of Cornwall and then relaxing in the garden on an evening (after the pub).

We will definitely be back. Thanks so much.

PS the shop next door has AMAZING scotch eggs and pies (and cider!!)

— S & M and Stanley the dog. June 2022

A WELCOME RETURN TO THIS PART OF CORNWALL

Consistent quality and clean, comfortable accommodation with everything catered for.

A fabulous base to explore the local area and trips to the local beaches, coves, creeks and estuaries, especially the Helford River.

— The P Family. June 2022

A VERY RELAXING AND COMFORTABLE STAY

Trebah Gardens were super. Two walking highlights were Mullion Cove to Soapy Cove and back again and Mullion Cove to Porthleven and back again. Tasty Cornish pasty at Philps in Porthleven.

— N & P. June 2022

DAPHNE COTTAGE IS AN ABSOLUTELY AMAZING, WELL EQUIPPED AND BEAUTIFUL COTTAGE..

.. which has provided us with every creature comfort we could only wish for. The layout of the cottage and the secure garden for dogs is brilliant.

We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay here, and the local walks and beaches with our dogs. We brought along all our dog beds, so I do apologies that the bedding covers in the smaller bedroom have some paw prints on them as one of our dogs got scared one night.

Best wishes and kindest regards.

— D & family. June 2022

FAB COTTAGE - EVERYTHING WE WANTED WAS HERE

Great base for exploring the coastal path, amazing beaches, beautiful views everywhere we looked.

The garden is perfect for dogs - we don’t want to leave!

— J, R & Dougie the dog. May 2022

WE ENJOYED ANOTHER WONDERFUL WEEK IN THIS MAGNIFICENT COTTAGE

The location is perfect for discovering Cornwall and so many great things to do on the doorstep.

We find the shop next door to be very useful stocking so much locally sourced and quality products.

We visited Hooked on the Rocks, the Ferryboat Inn and The Cove at Maenporth for dinner and would recommend all of these. The scallops at Hooked on the Rocks without doubt the best we have ever tasted.

Looking forward to our next visit.

— P & A. April 2022

10 / 10 THE COTTAGE IS STUNNING AND FELT LIKE A HOME FROM HOME RIGHT AWAY

Everything we needed was here and the welcome wine and goody bag was a lovely touch, thank you.

My only criticism indoors is no hand rail on the steep but albeit, 3 stairs. I have a poorly foot and hand to hold onto the wall on the left as you go down (NOTE: handrail ordered August 2022)

Outside the grass was muddy - lots of washing paws, artificial grass would be a great benefit, we have it and it is a godsend. (NOTE: lawn sanded and drains put in June 2022. Artificial grass experts say it would be too hot in that location in the summer for dogs)

We will definitely be back if you’ll have us? Beds so comfy. All in all we’ve had a lovely week so thanks again.

— K & M & doggies. April 2022

COSY & WARM COTTAGE. ALL THE ROOMS ARE BEAUTIFULLY DECORATED & FURNISHED

The kitchen is light and airy, looking out onto the garden. The patio is quite sheltered and we even managed to sit outside in the sun one afternoon. Just wonderful to come back to after a long coast path walk!

We enjoyed the coffee and cakes at the coffee shop on the corner of Mawnan square - AWNA - excellent coffee and friendly service.

In Falmouth we enjoyed breakfast one day and Sunday lunch another at Indigo - good food and excellent views from the restaurant.

Trebah is the most beautiful garden leading down to the beach, their coffee shop / restaurant is also worth stopping at! Highly recommend the Meudon Hotel for a cream tea or afternoon tea.

— L&J. March 2022

THANKS FOR A WONDERFUL WEEK AT DAPHNE COTTAGE

It was SO nice to have a week of warm sunshine after all the recent storms and dreary weather. The renovations here are to a very high standard and lovely to have comfy beds and quality fittings. We thought the air source heat pump is pretty amazing, however, the cottage was far too hot given the sunny weather.

The shop next door is fab, everything you need, good quality fresh fruit and veg, beer and wine and even a good selection of gluten free products - very impressed.

So many gorgeous dog walks - we particularly enjoyed the cliff walk from Mawnan Church, sitting on a rock in the little cove in the late afternoon sun, watching a cormorant diving for fish, whilst the dog pooled about chewing driftwood and seaweed - a lovely round trip back through the meadows.

Hedleys Cider Farm - don’t bother, it only takes 5 minutes to go around. Porth Towan is a lovely expanse of sandy beach and rock pools but watch the tide, it races in.

— M, K & Hector. March 2022

A WONDERFUL COTTAGE. THANK YOU FOR SENDING THE CHAMPAGNE GLASSES!

The location next to the village shop is perfect, they were very helpful and everything at the cottage was easy to use.

We were a bit confused with the rubbish bin system - where ‘sorted’ rubbish was to be placed a the end of our stay - a very different system to ours. (NOTE: all rubbish goes in the blue bin at the front and is sorted by the waste company)

Mawnan Smith is a great location - we followed your recommendations for restaurants and pubs, with the exception of the first night when we tried the Red Lion and realised why it was not one of your recommendations!

We would love to come back again - low season worked well for us.

— K & R. February 2022

WHAT A PERFECT WAY TO SEE THE NEW YEAR IN!

You have thought of everything, the cottage is beautiful.

We had a wonderful week with family. Not such good weather, which makes being by the fire even more perfect. The dogs loved the underfloor heating. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

PS Can’t wait to come back and recommend to friends.

— F & R. New Year 2021

SUPERB COTTAGE, EVERYTHING YOU REQUIRE FOR A FAB BREAK

Ideally situated to all amenities and beaches. We had great food in the Red Lion pub. Harbour Lights - good fish and chips.

— S, C & C. December 2021

The log fire was especially nice during Storms Eunice and Franklin!

Food recommendations

We look forward to visiting again!

We will be back in 2022! Merry Christmas.

— The E Family. February 2022

WELL, OUR FIRST STAY AT DAPHNE COTTAGE, AND THE COTTAGE JUST KEPT GIVING

A perfect home from home, set in a superb village with all amenities, not too far from excellent restaurants and cosy pubs to relax in after brisk walks.

Going out on excursions was great, but always nice to get back here. Our weather wasn’t the best, but it was on the back burner, with everything else to compensate. Thank you for providing a superb stay.

— L & J. December 2021

WE HAVE REALLY ENJOYED OUR STAY HERE, WE CANNOT FAULT DAPHNE COTTAGE.

We had everything we needed to cook over Christmas - thank you for all the lovely touches that made our stay memorable. Paddy, our dog loved the heated floors after our lovely walks in the sunshine. So thank you for our very comfortable stay (and I haven’t managed to kill the Poinsettia - I normally do!)

— H & N & Paddy. Christmas 2021

LOVELY STAY IN A VERY COMFORTABLE COTTAGE

That said, I’m glad we didn’t bring the in-laws as they wouldn’t have managed with the three steps in the cottage

Highly recommend Harbour Lights fish and chip shop, the coffee shop and craft shops on the way to Coverack, also Trebah Gardens, Godrevy beach, the local metal smith and Oystercatcher shops are brilliant and so friendly. Afternoon tea at the Meudon Hotel is a must, or if without dogs treat yourself to dinner there - wonderful.

A lovely place in a lovely part of the UK. Many thanks.

— The T Family. November 2021

THANK YOU FOR A LOVELY STAY IN YOUR VERY COMFORTABLE COTTAGE. YOUR WELCOME PACK WAS MUCH APPRECIATED.

The weather this week has been very mixed - heavy downpours, hailstones, sunshine and rainbows! We managed to dodge the rain and we visited some lovely places.

Our favourite trip was a visit to Helford which included a river crossing on the ferry. On our return we had fish and chips at The Ferryboat Inn - delicious! Other places we visited; St Ives (we used the park and ride from St Earth railway station), Falmouth, Porthtowan, St Michael’s Mount, Porthleven and Swanpool beach.

— C & K. November 2021

WHAT A BEAUTIFUL PLACE TO STAY

It was so nice to enjoy this well presented home away from home.

Our best days were Mousehole, a beautiful little fishing harbour and can recommend the Rock Pool Cafe for lunch or afternoon tea. St Michael’s Mount was an amazing experience and we enjoyed walking across the causeway.

We booked evening tickets at the Minack Theatre - WOW!

— P & S. October 2021

WE’VE HAD THE MOST AMAZING TIME AND YOUR HOUSE IS LOVELY

We certainly managed to chill out before Christmas. We’ve stayed in many holiday cottage and this is certainly one of our favourites and the village itself is charming.

We will be back in 2022! Merry Christmas.

— N, S & J. December 2021

ANOTHER FAB WEEK AT DAPHNE COTTAGE - OUR 4TH OR 5TH STAY!

The cottage, village and Cornwall are beautiful. We are going to book for 2022 as soon as we get home! Thank you so much.

— The P Family. November 2021

DESPITE INCLEMENT WEATHER AT THE BEGINNING OF THE WEEK, WE HAVE THOROUGHLY ENJOYED OUR STAY AT DAPHNE COTTAGE…

…and managed unbelievably to miss the heavy storms which by good chance happened in the evenings! The cottage is beautifully equipped and incredibly warm and cosy. Thank you very much for your generous welcome pack!

We have visited Trebah Gardens - an absolute must with a lovely restaurant too. We certainly recommend The Ferryboat Inn at Helford Passage and even more recommend The Shipwright Arms across the ferry in Helford. Tried unsuccessfully to book a river trip from the Budock Vean Hotel but they were fully booked.

Other restaurants we recommend are The Cove at Maenporth - we treated ourselves to a meal there and lunch at Hooked on the Rocks at Swanpool near Falmouth. Gorgeous food and fabulous views. Unfortunately we cannot recommend The Red Lion in Mawnan Smith - poor food and not very customer friendly!

Well worth a visit is Constantine Stores with an absolutely amazing selection of whisky and gin!

— V & T. October 2021

WE HAVE BEEN LUCKY OVER MANY YEARS TO STAY IN SOME REALLY GREAT HOLIDAY COTTAGES, BUT DAPHNE COTTAGE IS BY FAR THE BEST

It really is a beautiful comfortable cottage, so well equipped with everything you need and more.

We have visited a few places we haven’t been to before and have stayed fairly local (due to petrol shortage). It’s been a good relaxing week (much needed). Thanks again and we hope we get back to stay again. Will definitely recommend to friends. PS shop very handy

— S, D & Mabel. October 2021

I COULDN’T BELIEVE MY LUCK WHEN THIS COTTAGE WAS AVAILABLE THIS WEEK (HALF TERM)

It has appeared on my news feed several times and the pictures do not do it justice.

Despite feeling under the weather (cold not covid) we had a fantastic week, despite being scared to death by the gardeners turning up!!

In the words of 4 in a bed:

Hosts 10/10 Sleep 10/10 Facilities 10/10

Cleanliness 10/10 Value for money 20/10

Would you stay again? YES!! Thank you for letting us stay.

— The T Family. October 2021

OUR THIRD VISIT TO DAPHNE COTTAGE AND AS PREVIOUSLY, IT DIDN’T DISAPPOINT

We have stayed in other holiday rentals but none have come up to this standard so we keep coming back.

We visited Pendennis Castle for the first time - well worth going to see and then St Mawes castle on the other side of the headland (via the King Harry Ferry). We spent the afternoon on Carne beach - quite spectacular when the tide is out.

Porth Saxon beach was lovely in the sunshine and a bit quieter than Grebe or by The Ferryboat Inn, we even swam , unheard of for us.

Eating out wasn’t so easy, many places were closed (e.g. The Shipwrights at Helford) or only open on certain days. Thank goodness for The Ferryboat Inn, two lovely meals there.

Trebah Gardens is well worth visiting, dog friendly too as is Trelissick with its lovely walk along the creek. Godrevy beach is another highlight, lots of seals basking on the beach.

Thank you Rachel and your team for another lovely holiday.

— A & J. September 2021

HIGH QUALITY AND COSY OPEN PLAN ACCOMMODATION

Quality service and provisions too. Weather was mixed but some sunny spells and lots to do and see.

Our highlights are the Helford River and sailing.

Back again for 2022. Thank you!

— The P Family. August 2021

THANK YOU FOR A LOVELY STAY!

We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Daphne Cottage - a beautiful base for exploring the local area. It truly has everything you need. We hope to come back soon.

— The E Family. July 2021

DAPHNE COTTAGE HAS BEEN A WONDERFUL PLACE TO STAY FOR OUR FAMILY HOLIDAY

Such a beautiful cottage, well equipped with everything you could need and perfect for our dog Buddy!

The beds were very comfortable and I loved the view from the bed in the morning out to the beautiful garden! A wonderful way to start the day. The garden was fantastic, wonderful to sit in when the sun came out and definitely “springer proof” - Buddy loved it!

The location of the cottage was ideal for exploring the local area and beyond. We enjoyed visits to the Lizard Peninsula, The Minack Theatre, St Mawes, Falmouth, Holywell Bay and more locally along the Helford River to name just a few! So many wonderful dog walks from the cottage, it’s been ideal.

I must mention the Meudon Hotel, just a 15 minute walk across the fields to a lovely hotel set in subtropical gardens that lead to a fantastic beach (ED note: it’s Bream Cove). We enjoyed our anniversary lunch there and they made us feel very welcome. Worth a visit!

Thank you Rachel, we will return.

— The W Family & Buddy the Springer. August 2021

FABULOUSLY RENOVATED COTTAGE, VERY CLEAN, COSY AND COMFORTABLE

Great shower, kitchen facilities and comfy beds.

We had a fabulous week, visited all the usual places, walked all the local walks, wonderful coast and view points.

The corner shop (ED note: next door) is handy but we’ve eaten out most days. Our favourite places are The Ferryboat Inn and The Black Swan in Gweek.

Would definitely visit the area again and Daphne Cottage.

Many thanks for a our stay in your lovely cottage.

— A, P & Dexter. September 2021

PERFECT SET UP FOR OUR LITTLE FAMILY. THE STUNNING GARDEN PROVED TO BE AN ABSOLUTE SUNTRAP

…which the whole family (baby and paws included) enjoyed daily. We can confirm the garden is Labrador proof! The main bedroom view onto the garden provided numerous tranquil evenings.

Mawnan Smith is a lovely village, with so much on offer in the wider area. We loved the booklet recommendations. The dog walks in the area were brilliant and the restaurants suggested were great! Our favourites were the Star & Garter for Sunday lunch and Hooked on the Rocks. Both were excellent for food and outstanding views.

We would happily have stayed for much longer and cannot wait to come back in the future. Thank you for a fantastic break.

— The M Family. July 2021

THANK YOU AGAIN FOR ANOTHER LOVELY STAY..

..it’s been great to be back in Cornwall finally! We had some lovely meals out, there is a new tapas in Falmouth which is worth a look called Bodega.

Restaurant Four in Falmouth is also lovely, you need to book and our favourite, Mangia, which is a family run Italian in Falmouth.

We discovered Holywell Beach, which is a beautiful sandy beach with dunes. Godrevy is also great, there are resident seals in the cove and the cafe is amazing!

— D & K. May 2021

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SUCH A WONDERFUL STAY!

The cottage is so lovely and the perfect base for exploring. My children loved your garden.

We highly recommend visiting St Michael’s Mount, the Lost Gardens of Heligan and Trebah Garden.

We can’t wait to return to Daphne Cottage!

— The H Family. June 2021

OUR SECOND WONDERFUL WEEK AT DAPHNE COTTAGE

One night Vicki’s sister and brother-in-law (who also have a son resident in Trenoweth) came to stay and they were excellent guides for a tour of the Lizard.

Otherwise, we have enjoyed the usual local gardens, pubs etc. and vote The Pandora as England’s best pub (on a lovely day).

The choir at Mawnan church were short on Sunday and Oliver was asked to join. Have adjusted the hinge on the front gate so that the latch fits the catch.

— O & V. June 2021

WE’VE HAD A WONDERFUL WEEK AT DAPHNE COTTAGE, A DELIGHTFUL PLACE TO STAY

Highlights have included:

Lunch at the Budock Vean Hotel - amazing food. A cruise on the Helford River (with Helford River Cruises). A visit to the Lizard and a coastal walk. Taking the ferry to Helford and walk up to Kestle Barton. Linden Hay Garden Tea Room.

Some pubs and restaurants closed at short notice due to staff members testing positive for Covid so the village shop next door proved invaluable!

We’d love to return soon.

— W & S. June 2021

WE HAVE HAD A LOVELY TIME IN YOUR LOVELY COTTAGE

We have enjoyed our stay and are back in July. Had some great meals at the Ferryboat Inn (takeaway) but you can use their tables and chairs (ED note, this was during reduced operation during Covid)

— A & P, April 2021

THIS IS OUR THIRD STAY AT DAPHNE COTTAGE AND ALREADY WE’VE BOOKED FOR NEXT YEAR

We’ve thoroughly enjoyed every moment albeit the weather was very mixed. Places worth a visit and highlights for our holiday:

The Roseland Peninsula via the King Harry Ferry - £9 return, taking in St Mawes, St Just in Roseland - the Subtropical Gardens surround the church and its setting is a real must see - absolute heaven!

St Ives parking at St Erth station - 10 mins journey £8 return for a day saver ticket for 4 persons.

Fowey boat but don’t attempt to drive into but park in the main cara park (PL23 1ET) and take the Fowey town bus into the fabulous historic centre with quaint streets, nice shops and views over the estuary. Buses run every 15 minutes.

As places were closed and was hit and miss in finding good places to dine we took advantage of the fresh daily fish and seafood available from Seabourne Fish, Penryn TR10 8AG 01326 378 478 - contact David.

Many thanks for a lovely holiday again Rachel, and look forward to returning soon.

— M, A, M, A & Maisie the Yorkshire terrier, May 2021

WE HAVE HAD A LOVELY BREAK AT DAPHNE COTTAGE

What a stunning cottage with everything you could need. With a mixed bag of weather, and during ‘only permitted outside times’ we opted to be out for lunch and brave the elements. We would recommend:

Hooked on the Rocks - great seafood, booking essential

The Red Lion - pub grub and only across the road

The Ferryboat Inn - a popular lunch spot, great takeaway food which can be enjoyed on the terrace.

Gylly Beach Cafe - great food and service. We didn’t book but went prompt and were lucky to get a table.

Shop next door is great but FYI only open 9.30 - 16.30 (ED note - winter hours are now 09.30 - 15.45)

What a lovely brea away, thank you Rachel and team!

— J & family, May 2021

WHAT A GEM OF A COTTAGE..

…it made the week of challenging weather far easier to bear!

In these strange Covid times The Ferryboat Inn saved the day with their fabulous takeaways - we had one most evenings as it was impossible to book indoor seating. Disappointed with the food in The Red Lion, but maybe we got them on a poor day.

Loved Trebah Gardens and the 10 mile circular was, although not for the faint hearted is one to appreciate (described in the booklet).

PS thank you so much for the wine!

— G &G, May 2021

WE’VE HAD A WONDERFUL WEEK AT DAPHNE COTTAGE. WE WERE LUCKY ENOUGH TO BE THE FIRST GUESTS OF 2021

After the long moths of lockdown it has been fabulous to get away to beautiful Cornwall for a few days. The cottage is beautiful and has everything you need.

We’ve been to Maenporth beach, spend the day at Trebah Gardens and spent two days at our favourite beach - Poldhu. The weather has been glorious and the kids have loved being on the beach.

Many thanks for a wonderful stay.

— K, N, L & C, April 2021

A LOVELY COTTAGE, BEAUTIFULLY DECORATED AND EVERYTHING PROVIDED..

.. lovely and clean too, thank you!

Our week was sadly a little shorter than anticipated but lovely to get away. The weather was changeable but we made the most of it anyway - our cocker spaniel enjoyed the walks and sea!

We made it on the walk to Porth Saxon beach and also visited Trebah Gardens, Swanpool, Falmouth and Maenporth.

We ate at the Red Lion, Hooked on the Rocks but our favourite was the Ferryboat Inn at Helford Passage where we had the most delicious fish tacos and fish chowder, very clean (and Covid regulated) and warm and friendly service.

Many thanks - a lovely stay.

— The A Family, October 2020

WE’VE HAD SUCH A LOVELY TIME STAYING IN YOUR GORGEOUS COTTAGE

.. thank you so much for having us. Everything was completely spotless when we arrived with a very generous welcome pack. You’ve thought of everything we could possibly need during our stay.

It’s been a very relaxing few days which was exactly what we needed just before Christmas.

We visited St Ives beach and wandered around Falmouth, stopping for a lovely cream tea. We also had the most amazing Sunday lunch at the Gurnard’s Head in Zennor, it was delicious and fantastic service too, definitely need to book though.

We would love to visit again during the summer and when more things are open to explore some more. Thank you again.

— S, G, I & M & Jasper the Cavalier, December 2020

WE HAVE HAD A WONDERFUL CHRISTMAS IN OUR FAMILY ‘BUBBLE’ HERE IN YOUR LOVELY COTTAGE

Every little comfort and luxury catered for. Lovely beds, shower, towels etc. Fabulous location and central to everything.

We would love to return in the summer when we are, hopefully, rid of Covid.

Thank you so much for our treats - bottle of fizz, biscuits, flowers, tea, Christmas tree etc, so lovely.

Sorry about the horrendous storm and the fact your garden table took flight and the glass top smashed, we have never experienced a storm like it!

We would love to return and can’t recommend enough.

— A & A, Christmas 2020

ANOTHER LOVELY STAY…

..in your beautiful house exploring the Lizard and Perranporth for the doggies. Than you for the welcome pack.

— J, L & Rolo & Ralph, September 2020

ANOTHER WONDERFUL STAY…

.. at Daphne Cottage. On arrival the cottage was spotless and smelt amazingly clean! As always, everything you need is here, nothing has been forgotten. The gate was blocked twice by people using the shop, maybe a note on the gate to keep clear?

Overall, despite the windy weather we both had a lovely holiday. Thank you.

— D & A, October 2020

WHAT A WEEK WE’VE HAD…

Saturday: a walk through Penrose onto the SW coast path and ending at Porthleven for lunch and then return

Sunday: Hall Walk, Fowey

Monday: St Ives a walk around the beaches avoiding the tourists

Tuesday: Mawgan Porth to Bedruthan steps - if you have to do one thing whilst here see the Bedruthan steps.

Wednesday: A walk around Falmouth and along the coast path to Maenporth - lunch at Hooked on the Rocks - outstanding

Thursday: A walk down to Helford Passage and ferry ride to Helford and a casual walk around the village. What a location and where better to be based.

Absolutely gorgeous cottage.

— A & P, October 2020

OUR SECOND VISIT TO DAPHNE COTTAGE AND IT IS AS LOVELY AS WE REMEMBERED

The attention to detail, welcome pack and Covid safe measures make it so much nicer than anywhere else we have stayed.

The weather has been fantastic, Church Cove and Poldhu being our favourites. We had never been to Trelissick before, definitely worth a visit, especially with a dog. There is a lovely walk along the estuary through the woods and a great little beach. Our dog loved it and for the first time ever was persuaded to swim in the sea there.

Excellent fish and chips at The Ferryboat Inn last night watching a very restless sea at high tide. Thank you very much Rachel.

— A & J, September 2020

JUST WANTED TO SAY…

…Alex, Lola and I had a wonderful week at the cottage. So much to see and do and was lovely to take it easy in the evening. Several were spent chatting over a glass of wine at the kitchen table. I think that was our favourite spot. We would love to stay again next year.

— A, K & Lola the dog. September 2020

WE’VE HAD A LOVELY STAY

Thank you. This house is beautiful, stylish and quirky. The Boatshed is also a beautiful space. It’s in a lovely location, close to many great beaches. It was lovely and clean when we arrived and has everything necessary for a great stay. Also thank you for the little bag of treats.

— R, M, N & E, July 2020

WE’VE HAD A LOVELY TIME IN DAPHNE COTTAGE

….and around the Helford more generally. The cottage is well thought out and comfortable as a place to while away a sunny evening after a day on the river.

I think we might be your first ‘post-covid’ guests so wanted to say how welcoming everyone has been - whether at the village shop (where we bought everything we needed note: Kittow’s meat is always a treat!), The Red Lion, or Ian down at Helford River Boats.

Highlights: towing a couple of paddleboards up Frenchman’s creek for the kids to joust with each other; a wonderful evening meal with the dog at The Cove in Maenporth as dusk arrived; and the privilege of being the first to use your splendid new boathouse (a fantastic space for ‘zoom’ ballet lessons!) Thanks again.

AN ABSOLUTE GEM OF A PLACE

Loved our stay at Daphne Cottage, we will definitely come again soon.

— D & A. September 2019

WOW, THE COTTAGE IS AMAZING

It is decorated beautifully and also very practical, with everything you need and more. The flowers in the kitchen and hall were a lovely touch.

We will be booking again if possible, I am sure everyone will want to book again once they have been to Daphne Cottage.

1) Helford village: stunning and great walks especially Frenchman’s Creek walk.

2) Helford Passage: great place to swim and mess about in boats.

3) St Mawnes another stunner of a place to visit and the walk to St Just in Roseland must not be missed. It is the prettiest church in England.

4) Best beach, Kynance Cove

5) Best meal, 2 Fore Street, Mousehole. A long way but it is pretty and the food is amazing - must book.

— P & A. July 2019

THANK YOU FOR LETTING US STAY AT DAPHNE COTTAGE

We had the most amazing week exploring the area. The local pub - The Red Lion - was perfect. Comfy beds and a lovely shower and bath.

We are going to be sad to leave, will definitely be back to finish off our exploring as we ran out of time!

Perranporth beach was loved by our dog Rolo as were the many National Trust sites in this area. Thanks again.”

— J, L & Rolo the dog. October 2019

LOVELY COTTAGE, ALL WE NEED, AND MORE

Shower fantastic and loved the outside seating area - great for lazy reading in the evening sunshine.

As usual, Trebah was fab, the kids loved the zipwire and I love the cafe - great combo! The beach there is also lovely.

Good bodyboarding at Gwithian with the great Godrevy breakfast sandwiches nearby. Also managed a long walk from Porthleven to Marazion this time - tiring but views were great.

All in all a lovely stay, comfy and cosy and just right. Thanks”

— R, E, R & R. August 2019

WE HAVE HAD THE MOST IDYLLIC WEEK AT DAPHNE COTTAGE

Couldn’t have wished for a more perfect house, location and the weather was blissful. Visited Coverack, Falmouth, St Ives, Trebah Gardens, Lelant, Porthkidney Beach - the dog’s favourite - and lots more.Very much a home from home - in fact, when can we move in?!? Thank you so much for the wine, milk, eggs, roses, biscuits and the ready supply of tea, coffee, sugar etc. Just perfect.”

— S, O & Charlie & Barney the dogs. July 2019

AMAZING COTTAGE, LOVELY GARDEN AND BEAUTIFULLY DECORATED, FELT LIKE A COSY HOME

Has everything you could wish for in terms of utensils and such in the kitchen with all the appliances. We ate in most nights and never found there was anything missing. The completely secure detached cottage was perfect for our dog, she could roam around the front and back as she pleased without worry. The garden is lovely and private which was great for relaxing in the evenings with the nice weather.

Great location, pub nearby which did really good food. Also so many different places to explore nearby within easy driving distance. Overall, and amazing place, perfect for a long or short stay, we didn’t want to leave!!

— A, D and Zala the dog. April 2019

Daphneblue-dog.png

A FABULOUS COTTAGE WITH HIGH QUALITY FITTINGS AND EVERYTHING YOU NEED FOR AN ENJOYABLE STAY

The owners have thought of everything and it is a refreshing change to have basics like salt and pepper etc. instead of having to go and purchase. A shop next door is an added bonus though we didn’t need anything.

Superb walks for the dogs - need to revisit to explore further. Had an excellent day at Polperro Beach including ice creams for us and special dog ice creams!

— J & S, June 2019

THANK YOU FOR A LOVELY RELAXING STAY AT DAPHNE COTTAGE

The house is beautifully presented, comfortable and immaculately clean - a real home from home. The location is ideal for exploring the Helford and Falmouth areas and further afield.

Highly recommend our old garden favourites, Trebah and Glendurgan, and the Bonython Estate is also worth a visit. Had excellent meals at The Ferryboat Inn, Shipwright Arms and Hooked on the Rocks. Good fish and chips at Harbour Lights and great lunches at The Potager Garden, The Heron Inn, Malpas (outstanding Sunday roast) and Trebah kitchen.

For a special trip, Blue River Table from Mylor Yacht Harbour is terrific.

Lots of fantastic walks - Mawnan Smith to Porth Saxon is gorgeous and both sides of Helford Village are stunning.

Kayaking with Tom at Koru Kayaking from the Budock Vean down the Helford is fab, as is paddle boarding with SUP in a bag and Get on Board SUP, and the Maritime Museum is worth a visit, especially on a rainy day - and we had many!

— V & D, June 2019

WHAT A DIAMOND IN A GEM OF A LOCATION

Have had a wonderful week’s stay in Daphne Cottage with all the amenities one could ask for. Quality fixtures and fittings, utensils and equipment. Comfortable beds with crisp white sheets and we had the weather to go with it.

St Mawes is a must to visit and especially the Italianate gardens of Lamorran - open Wednesdays and Fridays, April to September. If you visit St Ives, park at Lelant Saltings and travel by train to St Ives - £2pp return, 15 minutes and the views are incredible.

Maisie, our miniature Yorkshire terrier loved every minute of our stay, can’t wait to visit again soon - already in our plans. Thank you for the arrival pack and wine and the flowers were a nice gesture.

— M, A, M, A & Maisie the Yorkie, May 2019

WE HAVE HAD AN ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL TIME AT YOUR BEAUTIFUL COTTAGE

The cottage is magnificent, so well equipped, we couldn’t believe it!! You should be very proud of it. We were fortunate to have wonderful weather this week but it was still lovely to return to such a cosy cottage end of a day. We loved everything about it including the garden. The dogs took to their little cubbyholes the day we arrived and loved them.

Thank you so much for letting us stay at your lovely cottage and thank you very much for the wine, biscuits, flowers, milk and duck eggs - they were delicious. Hope we have left the cottage satisfactorily but obviously not as sparkling as when we arrived. We would love to return in the future (soon!). Thank you again.

WE HAVE HAD A FABULOUS WEEK AT DAPHNE COTTAGE

It is a beautiful house, it’s the attention to detail that is really special, the lighting, the pictures and technology that set it apart.

We spent many happy early evenings on the outdoor sofa, perfectly located for the late afternoon sun.. and Daisy the Cockapoo loved the garden!!

There are so many places to visit and walk that we will definitely be back. Thank you!

FABULOUS HOUSE AND GREAT LOCATION

We’ve had a great time here this week - really loved The Ferryboat Inn and our trip on the river. Went to St Ives for the day and would recommend catching the train from St Erth - easy and a lovely journey along the coast.

Been on all the local beaches - we were blessed with fabulous weather! Thank you for a great time.

— L, J, T & E. April 2019

REALLY WONDERFUL AND RELAXING WEEKEND IN DAPHNE COTTAGE

Amazing log burner and v. comfy sofa / armchairs made for a cosy evening in. The Ferryboat Inn was fun (although very quiet) the other evening - great fish and chips. Beautiful headland walk in the sun with views of a millpond Helford River - would have been perfect for a kayak if we had been organised enough!

Loved the Cornish Maid cafe - we enjoyed a scrumptious cream tea with Sarah, which followed on to some limoncellos!!

Thank you so much, you have literally thought of everything. Daphne Cottage is absolute bliss, looking forward to coming back in the summer.

WONDERFUL WEEK HERE AT DAPHNE COTTAGE

Such a beautiful cottage in a lovely setting here in Mawnan Smith. We appreciated the attention to detail in this cottage - it felt very much like home and I would love a trip back next time I’m in the UK.

  • The Cove Restaurant was fantastic (NOTE LINK TO NEW OWNERSHIP WITH MICHAEL CAINES)

  • Enjoyed Trebah Gardens and a ferry ride to a seaside pub for a rose

  • The walk to Maenporth along the coast was spectacular

  • Lizard Point is a must! Breathtaking views

  • The Red Lion pub was convenient and friendly”

FABULOUS COTTAGE, VERY COMFORTABLE, PEACEFUL AND LUXURIOUS

Coffee machine and wood burner added to the cosiness. Thank you for providing milk, biscuits, coffee, soap etc. - we arrived late on Saturday so it was great to find these already here.

We have been to Falmouth several times, but hadn’t explored this area much - highlights of the week were Trebah GardensA trip by ferry across to Helford Village and doing the circular walk to Kestle Barton, Frenchman’s creek and the Holy Mackerel Cafe.Parking at Bosveal and kayaking at Grebe BeachIce creams at SwanpoolAll in all a great week, we were blessed with warmth and sunshine too. it has felt very luxurious and you have really thought of everything. We’ve had a lovely restful week, thank you.”

— L & W. September 2018

WE HAD A GLORIOUS WEEK IN YOUR COTTAGE

It is very comfortable and well-equipped and a lovely place just to be, inside or out.  You could not have built furnished a house better and being next to the village store, and a few yards from Sarah’s cream teas and the Red Lion, makes it a perfect place for holidays.

We ate and drank at several of the pubs on your list – cold fish platter at The Pandora perhaps our best lunch – had delicious cream tea’s at Sarah’s cafe; hired a boat on the Helford River; took a boat trip up the Fal, visited Trebah Gardens and Glendurgan Gardens, attended a whacky service at Mawnan Church, and swam at your local cove.

It is the most wonderful part of a beautiful county. We cooked our own dinner on two nights so that we made full use of your excellent kitchen.  It is almost impossible to find anything wrong with Daphne Cottage, or anything that could be improved!”

— V & O. June 2018

Daphneblue-dog.png

WHAT A FABULOUS WEEK WE’VE HAD

This cottage is beautiful, so tastefully decorated with very comfortable and luxurious furnishings. Great shower, comfy beds and a really well equipped kitchen. We love the Weber barbecue and cooked Cornish monkfish on it twice this week. Such a treat! Garden also good for children.

The location here is excellent for walking, beaches, boat trips and general exploring. We loved the boat trip to Helford village and lunch at the Ferryboat Inn. We also recommend the Falmouth to St Mawes boat trip. Thank you for a great holiday, we loved it!”

DAPHNE COTTAGE IS HEAVEN…

…and the location couldn’t be more perfect for five days in Cornwall.  We had a jam packed week, starting with a day trip to the Lizard, visiting Kynance Cove then Kennick Sands and to top it off, eating cream teas and ice cream at Roskilly’s.  Closer to the cottage, we went body boarding on Maenporth beach and did the pub quiz on Tuesday night at the Red Lion.  It was impossible!! But the highlight was a trip up the Helford River with our inflatable kayak newly named Floaty McFloatface.  We made it to Frenchman’s Creek to toast marshmallows on the little grass quay there and then headed back to the Shipwrights before returning our ‘vessel’ to Helford Passage and a well earned Mackerel Taco at The Ferryboat Inn. We will be back!

WE HAVE REALLY ENJOYED OUR STAY HERE…

and it is been a pleasure to return to Daphne Cottage at the end of every day. Waymarker and Potager Cafe near Constantine are worth a visit. We would like to return to go on more of the many walks in the local area. Thank you for the biscuits and basic provisions.

PS The Boatshed looks beautiful!
